Mukasey Doesn't Feed The Trolls Either

~Snooper~

Poor trolls. They get no respect. Are they even worth trouncing these days? Really. They are that boring and not worthy of viable verbiage.
Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey today sharply rebuffed congressional demands for details about the Justice Department's inquiry into the destruction of CIA interrogation tapes, saying that providing such information would make it appear that the department was "subject to political influence."

In letters to the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee and others, Mukasey also reiterated his opposition to appointing a special prosecutor to the tapes investigation, saying he was "aware of no facts at present" that would require such a step. [...]
He is supposed to act independently, you know. To catch a glimpse of the whining from the Camps of the Leftinistra, catch the comments at Think Digressive.

No dice, Mr. Mukasey said today, engaging in a bit of preemptive rhetorical warfare when explaining his reasons.

"The Department has a long-standing policy of declining to provide non-public information about pending matters. This policy is based in part on our interest in avoiding any perception that our law enforcement decisions are subject to political influence," Mr. Mukasey said.

Mr. Mukasey was brought in as a replacement for Alberto Gonzales, who Democrats said had allowed the Justice Department to be too influenced by the Bush administration's political preferences.
Good for him. We will see the DNC/Leftinistra Double Standards come into play here in full float soon enough. They whined when it appeared that Gonzales was "influenced" by GWB but NOT OK if the office cannot be "influenced" by the Leftinistra...go figure.

It just appears to be odd to be having a discussion about a moot point and "outlawing" a practice that hasn't been used for close to 4 years.

Catch the wave at memeorandum.
