NYT Confirms the "Vaunted Majority" Ain't So Smart

Naturally, they are oblivious to the fact that they have accomplished the confirmation. The writer(s) have attempted, again, to "pass the buck" of blame elsewhere.

I often wonder why the Leftinistra spend so much time blaming others when it would be so much easier to admit their own mistakes which, would result in the Leftinistra gaining some self-dignity and begin working on winning some respect. Until they stop blaming others for their own ineptness, their stupidity is their own.

In regards to the now "legal", even though it was legal before, "Domestic Spying Program, which it wasn't, has the Leftinistra now wondering just what in the hell they actually voted for.

And they dare call GWB the dumbest block head in history? Oh, my!

The dispute illustrates how lawmakers, in a frenetic, end-of-session scramble, passed legislation they may not have fully understood and may have given the administration more surveillance powers than it sought.

It also offers a case study in how changing a few words in a complex piece of legislation has the potential to fundamentally alter the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a landmark national security law. The new legislation is set to expire in less than six months; two weeks after it was signed into law, there is still heated debate over how much power Congress gave to the president.

Interpretation? The Leftinistra cannot read or, WILL not read.

Several legal experts said that by redefining the meaning of “electronic surveillance,” the new law narrows the types of communications covered in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, known as FISA, by indirectly giving the government the power to use intelligence collection methods far beyond wiretapping that previously required court approval if conducted inside the United States.

These new powers include the collection of business records, physical searches and so-called “trap and trace” operations, analyzing specific calling patterns.

Note to "them": "we" have been doing that for years! Remember Echelon?

One of the main aspects to this, to me anyway, is this; this will be another tool of the Leftinistra to have become another distraction point of contention. I can imagine some idiot DNC presidential aspirant making some lame claim that the President made them vote for it because he used strong-arm tactics. Also, they can claim that they were for it before they realized that they should have been against it but it is too late now and that the President should have known better.

These Leftinistra sure are stupid some times.

The Washington Post leads, and the Wall Street Journal tops its worldwide newsbox, with the Senate's last-minute approval of a Republican plan to overhaul terrorist surveillance laws, following a bitter row between the White House and Democratic lawmakers. The LA Times leads, and the New York Times off-leads, on heightening tensions on the Hill, as Democrats wrestle with stalled legislation and struggle to contain the fallout from allegations of vote-stealing. The NYT leads on the stock market's continuing woes amid fears that ailing mortgage and debt markets could take a toll on the wider economy.

The new spy laws approved yesterday by the Senate would expand the government's authority to eavesdrop without a court order on overseas phone calls and emails. Democrats initially said the legislation was too sweeping, and accused the White House of trying to wreck an existing deal; President Bush warned that he might seek to keep Congress in session until they passed the legislation. Senators eventually caved in, earning swift condemnation from privacy campaigners who predicted the laws would be used to eavesdrop on US citizens. Senate majority leader Harry Reid accused Republicans of rubber-stamping a flawed proposal, but noted that the measure would need to be re-approved in six months' time. The LAT and the NYT both note that the House is expected to pass an identical bill later today.

Congress starts to listen

As well they should. This DAV is Sick and Tired of the CONgress Critters putting life-time election cycles ahead of National Security and the GWOT.

Not unlike J.P. Morgan locking the nation's key bankers in a room and refusing to let them leave until they fixed the Panic of 1907, President Bush yesterday forbade the Democratic Congress from leaving Washington on August break until it damn well did something about wiretap protocols.

It looks like it did the trick. After a night of acrimonious debate, the Senate voted to give Bush for six months the eavesdropping power he had sought, with permanent fixes to be decided over that time. The House is set to take up the matter today.

It's preposterous that things come to this at all, given the assessment of U.S. intelligence professionals that we should consider ourselves on elevated alert. Given, for that matter, the urgent warning from National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell that all-too-hamstrung government listening posts are "missing a significant portion of what we should be getting."

The Dimwitted Losers of Reid/Pelosi

Many of us have expressed our feelings that the Democratic Party leadership(?) are the terrorists' best friends. It seems to this DAV that they go out of their way to decimate the anti-terrorist attack programs that this country has initiated since 91101.

Thanks to the Clinonistas, the Chiefs of such organization being Billy Bob Cigar Toy Boy and the would-be Czarina, (Bill and Hillary, for those on the left); the intelligence agencies were decimated to a nearly non-effective force, as Tenet even so admitted.

The Clintonistras filled positions of National Security with fellow followers of the Clintonistra dogma of Hate America and Blame America First, including the CIA. They ignored the FACT that the Jihadists declared war on the United States during the Clintonistra Kingdom.

Today, as I scan the internet that Gore made, I ran across this gem:

Jockeying for political position, political power, at the expense of National Security is absolutely reprehensible. The Leftinistra screamed and hollered about the theoretical Domestic Spying Program which, we ALL know (even them) was not a domestic spying program at all. So much so that the "unconstitutionality" ruling of the Leftinistra judge was reversed by a Judge of Conviction.

The Leftinistra are doing everything in their Loser Mentality Power Lust to uproot any and ALL programs that may benefit our security.

That's right: If an al Qaeda operative in Quetta calls a fellow jihadi in Peshawar, that call may well travel through a U.S. network. This ought to be a big U.S. advantage in our "asymmetrical" conflict with terrorists. But it also means that, for the purposes of FISA, a foreign call that is routed through U.S. networks becomes a domestic call. So thanks to the obligation to abide by an outdated FISA statute, U.S. intelligence is now struggling even to tap the communications of foreign-based terrorists. If this makes you furious, it gets worse.

Reversal of 'Eavesdropping' Ruling Ignored

What IS it with the Lame Stream Media? What IS their deep, dark, secretive agenda? Why won't they admit to their biased reporting?

Last August, when one federal judge ruled unconstitutional the monitoring of overseas phone calls with suspected terrorists, the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts all highlighted the defeat for the Bush administration. But on Friday, after an appeals court overturned the earlier decision, ABC and CBS were silent while NBC again distorted the policy as "domestic spying." Last August 17, ABC's World News anchor Charles Gibson teased: "A federal judge tells the Bush administration one of its main terror-fighting tools violates the Constitution." Gibson introduced the story of the "major legal defeat" for the Bush administration and correspondent Martha Raddatz filed a full report in which she described the ruling as a "significant blow" to the administration. While the words "Domestic Surveillance" were displayed on screen, NBC anchor Campbell Brown relayed that the judge "harshly condemned" the program.

Yet, eleven months later, though Gibson anchored Friday night during the holiday week, ABC's World News skipped the reversal from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals as ABC led with the problem of people defrauding the government of Hurricane Katrina relief money. Neither ABC or CBS caught up on Saturday night.

Humph! Imagine that! Silence of the lambs, as it were.
