The same Democrats that tried to lose the war in 2006 and 2007 are now trying to ensure ultimate defeat in the long run. John Jerk-Off Murtha said this recently:The Defense Department is going to have to cut personnel in order to pay for procurement. . . . I don’t know that they are going to be able to keep growing the Army," said Murtha, adding, "Personnel costs are out of control."As far as I know, hasn't Obama stated that increasing the size of the military was one of his highest priorities? And, hasn't Murtha been running his re-election bid on the most important aspect is his total support of the military? Seems to me that either one or both men are lying once again for political expediency. Go figure. [...]

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senators Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) and Lindsey Graham today urged the U.S. Senate to adopt a bipartisan resolution that recognizes the reality of the strategic success of the surge in Iraq:The result? Crickets. They refused to support this Resolution. Why? Because it would show that they were wrong about something. Their inability to acknowledge The Troops has shown that not only do they not support the GWOT that they originally did support, they also do not support the Troops or their Mission. It is all fluffy rhetoric for political gain...political power.
"It was exactly one year ago today that General David Petraeus returned to Capitol Hill to testify before Congress about the progress of the surge in Iraq. At the time, many members of the Senate argued that the surge -- despite growing evidence of its success -- was not working and should be abandoned. One left-wing group, Moveon.org, even made the despicable and outrageous accusation that General Petraeus would try to 'cook the books' to justify the surge when he appeared before Congress.
"One year later, it is clear: the critics of the surge were wrong.
"Had we heeded their advice to retreat from Iraq in 2007, the United States would have suffered a catastrophic defeat in the heart of the Middle East that would have had terrible consequences far beyond Iraq for years to come. Fortunately, we did not abandon General Petraeus and his brave troops, and as a result, the situation in Iraq has completely reversed. We have witnessed substantial progress on the political, economic and military fronts. Our enemies are weaker, and America is safer.
"We congratulate the Iraqi people for coming together in the face of so much adversity to further the peace and prosperity of their country. We honor their sacrifices and share in their desire to continue to build on success.
"The situation in Iraq remains fragile and complex. The war is not over. Our two deadliest enemies -- al Qaeda and Iran -- will seize any opportunities we hand them to come back.
"However, because of the strategic success of the surge, more and more American troops are coming home, not in defeat, but in honor.
"In withdrawing our troops from Iraq, however, it is critical that we do not jeopardize the hard-won gains they have achieved. That means any withdrawal must be based on the recommendations of General Petraeus and our commanders on the ground, not on an arbitrary timeline invented in Washington. Our brave military has fought too hard, and sacrificed too much, for American politicians to throw away the gains they have achieved with an arbitrary timeline.
"What is needed now, therefore, is not more partisan politics over Iraq, but for Democrats and Republicans alike to come together and recognize reality: to acknowledge that the surge was not just a tactical success but a strategic success; to give thanks to our courageous men and women in uniform who made it possible; and to pledge that we will do nothing that might squander these hard-won gains.
"For that reason, we have introduced a bipartisan resolution that recognizes the reality of the strategic success of the surge. We hope that the Senate can unite to take up and adopt this resolution this week, on the one year anniversary of General Petraeus' testimony before Congress and as he prepares to depart Baghdad to take command of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The moment has come for the Senate to speak with one voice and admit the strategic success of the surge."
[...] The reality is that success in Iraq has confounded the political left, which placed a huge political bet on our defeat. Senator Reid famously declared the war lost in April 2007. Joe Biden introduced a resolution opposing the surge. And Hillary Clinton said the reports of progress in Iraq required "a willing suspension of disbelief." In the Democratic narrative, our troops in Iraq are victims of a lost cause, not heroes. They're allowed to get maimed and killed, but not to succeed.Indeed. I have been preparing to publish evidence of the complicity of Sen Reid and company in the American casualties amassed during The Reid Clan treasonous rhetoric while emboldening and enabling and encouraging the enemy to advance their political careers. It is beyond shameful.
Thus Democrats are left to argue that success in Iraq is irrelevant because the real fight against al Qaeda is occurring in Afghanistan. Or that the reduced violence in Iraq has resulted not from the troop surge but from the Sunni Awakening and the retreat of the Sadr militias. [...]
[...] The Lieberman-Graham resolution is a chance for Democrats to show that their support for the troops is more than rhetorical. It changes no policy and in that sense is only symbolic. Yet it is precisely the political symbolism of admitting they were wrong that is stopping the Democratic leadership from letting it come up for a vote before the Senate adjourns. Unfortunately, the last thing that Democrats want to discuss in this election season is success in Iraq. [END]

Most conservative political commentators tiptoe around the unpatriotic positions maintained by many liberals in America. We hear prominent conservatives say things like this, "I am not challenging Mr. Liberal's patriotism. I am challenging his point of view."I'll second and third that and sent it up for a vote. Can I get an AMEN?
The fact is that much of the new left is unpatriotic. And that is okay. The Founding Fathers knew that not all Americans would be patriots; in fact, they counted on it. In this article I will show why the culture of the left is not patriotic. My basic contention is that patriotism is now the responsibility of the right -- abandoned by the left. I will use stories and photographs from this year's Oregon Country Fair to help make the point. [...] (read the rest)

McCain and Obama and Our Troops by bethI find it vastly peculiar when I hear silly people say that there isn't much difference between McCain and Czarbama. I seriously question their synapse pathways are in order when I hear such things. But, that's just me.The difference between John McCain's interaction with American troops and Obama's is a reflection of how different the two men are. McCain appears natural and comfortable with Men at Arms. His interactions give every appearance of mutual respect.
Obama, on the other hand, appears .... well .... we don't know how he interacts with the troops because he seems to avoid that as carefully as he avoids a debate with McCain.
Enjoy this video of McCain with the troops … and Obama's shame.

Everyone in this district of Pennsylvania need to get on board here and make this happen!!1st Lt. Travis L. Manion was killed in action on April 27, 2007 in Iraq's Anbar Province.Yesterday, his father Thomas Manion, a Republican who recently retired as a colonel in the Marine Reserves, entered the race against antiwar liberal Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.).
Thomas says his son's death was a wake-up call to step forward and serve.
Jules Crittenden has more on the Manion's.

I received the following via email:
Vets for Freedom members,
2008 promises to be another busy year for Vets for Freedom. We are already working hard on a laundry list of events, and you should be on the lookout for exciting announcements in the coming weeks. We plan to ensure that the incredible progress our brave troops achieved in 2007 is continued and acknowledged.
While Congress returns to business and the Presidential race heats up, Vets for Freedom continues to actively advocate on behalf of the brave men and women who are defying the critics and winning the fight in Iraq. This Monday alone, Vets for Freedom member and Marine infantry officer Erik Swabb wrote an excellent article in the Wall Street Journal entitled "The Lessons of Iraq" and I wrote an op-ed in the National Review Online entitled "Death Blow to Defeatists" that outlines the recent political progress in Iraq. I also had the opportunity to appear on The O'Reilly Factor once again to take on MoveOn.org. To view the clip, please visit our website.
On another note, Vets for Freedom is proud to welcome Founder and Medal of Honor nominee David Bellavia as the Editor-In-Chief of our Troop Blog. David Bellavia is also the author of House to House: An Epic Memoir of War, an unforgettable story of triumph, adversity, and the unending courage of a U.S. infantryman and his squad in Iraq. David-along with many other excellent writers-will be blogging daily.
Lastly, be sure to visit our new website to get the latest news articles and updates on issues important to Vets for Freedom members. I look forward to working with each of you this year as we continue to support our brave troops in Iraq and Afghanistan-and our veterans here at home.

When we heard that the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors would be taking up the issue of the war in Iraq as part of their regular business, with a proposed resolution calling for a timetable for phased-in defeat, we simply had to do something despite the late notice.
News that the board would be taking a look at the resolution first broke last week, causing a small firestorm of controversy here in sleepy old Sacramento, where Move America Forward bases it's headquarters.
As a recently arrived resident of this town I have grown to like Sacramento, in a very short time, so I was interested to come to a meeting of its County Board of Supervisors to see how local government works. It was unfortunate that my first visit would be to witness the County Board take up an issue that clearly is beyond it's operational jurisdiction.
This was the same opinion voiced by dozens of other people from the community, who stood with Move America Forward in opposition to the resolution at the board meeting.
While the Board moved to drop the resolution, a motion enacted by Supervisor Peters - bravo! - Which was the right thing to do, the Board also took the time to let the members of the community who came to speak about the issue, from both sides, give their opinions. [...] read the rest...
[...] After a two-week stint visiting our troops in Iraq, Move America Forward staffers have returned with news and photographs that can be summed up in four words: American troops are winning.
The MAF delegation traveled well outside the Green Zone, to areas that once were the violence-plagued confines of the insurgency and jihadist terrorist groups.
"Our troops are making a difference now," said Mary Pearson, MAF deputy executive director and professional photographer, whose photos will appear in the Sacramento Union and here. [...] Read the rest

[...] What I don't want this to be is a chance for me, or anyone else, to be maudlin. I'm dead. That sucks, at least for me and my family and friends. But all the tears in the world aren't going to bring me back, so I would prefer that people remember the good things about me rather than mourning my loss. (If it turns out a specific number of tears will, in fact, bring me back to life, then by all means, break out the onions.) I had a pretty good life, as I noted above. Sure, all things being equal I would have preferred to have more time, but I have no business complaining with all the good fortune I've enjoyed in my life. So if you're up for that, put on a little 80s music (preferably vintage 1980-1984), grab a Coke and have a drink with me. If you have it, throw 'Freedom Isn't Free' from the Team America soundtrack in; if you can't laugh at that song, I think you need to lighten up a little. I'm dead, but if you're reading this, you're not, so take a moment to enjoy that happy fact. [...]
--as if men and women of this caliber want to be turned into surrenderists to serve some pandering politicians' agenda. We laugh about such absurdity. Not because we don't agree but because we will be back if the job isn't done...now.
THE DEATH OF ANDREW OLMSTED
Major Andrew Olmsted, who posted a blog since May 2007, was killed in Iraq on Thursday, Jan. 3. Major Olmsted, who had been based at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, began blogging after his unit was sent to Iraq with the mission of helping to train the Iraqi Army. No official details have been released on his death, but reports say that he and a second member of his unit were killed during an enemy ambush in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. Olmsted was determined to make a difference in Iraq. "The sooner the Iraqi government doesn't need U.S. support to provide security for its people, the sooner we will probably be asked to leave."
