The Campaign, Russia and Georgia
~Snooper~
As Russia escalates the war with Georgia, our Presidential Aspirants are showing their worth or in Barack's case, their worthlessness. Josh Kahn writes at The Next Right: (emphasis mine)
The Russian government's incompetent attack against John McCain has handed him a great weapon against Obama. The attack makes clear that the Kremlin wants Obama to win the election but the open support of a nation busy doing this is hardly going help a candidate who's already fighting a reputation for dictator-coddling. John McCain's statement on the crisis was excellent, but there's a lot more his campaign can do. [...] Read the restWe already know that the Jihadi scum, including the fruit loop of Iran, are hoping for an Obama presidency so it is no surprise that Putin wants very much Obama to be his competition. And don't hand me that nonsense that Putin isn't in charge of Russia either. Even an idiot knows that much. The McCain campaign needs to make this clear to the American People because first and foremost it is true.
Some say that the "little disagreement" is just a minor skirmish but when one navy vessel sinks the other's navy vessel, that is an escalation. When thousands flee the fighting, that isn't a minor skirmish.
President Bush has condemned the Russian invasion into an ally of America. So has McCain. So did Czarbama right after he didn't. There are reports of genocide but I hear no "outrage" directed towards Moscow. I can hardly wait for the "Bush Did It" nonsense. McCain issued this statement:
"The mindless slaughter is being conducted by a Russian military that seeks to reassert itself not only in the former Soviet Union but also to extend its reach throughout what used to be the former Soviet Union in an attempt to fold back into the Russian empire those countries that have broken away from it, most notably Georgia."In addition, McCain said the following:
Today, news reports indicate that Russian military forces crossed an internationally-recognized border into the sovereign territory of Georgia. Russia should immediately and unconditionally cease its military operations and withdraw all forces from sovereign Georgian territory. What is most critical now is to avoid further confrontation between Russian and Georgian military forces. The consequences for Euro-Atlantic stability and security are grave. Here is what Czarbama said and after you have read the aspiring to be president remarks, try and determine which one is more presidential. The answer, even to the oblivious, is obvious.
The government of Georgia has called for a cease-fire and for a resumption of direct talks on South Ossetia with international mediators. The U.S. should immediately convene an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to call on Russia to reverse course. The U.S. should immediately work with the EU and the OSCE to put diplomatic pressure on Russia to reverse this perilous course it has chosen. We should immediately call a meeting of the North Atlantic Council to assess Georgia's security and review measures NATO can take to contribute to stabilizing this very dangerous situation. Finally, the international community needs to establish a truly independent and neutral peacekeeping force in South Ossetia.
"I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict," Obama said in a statement. "Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full-scale war. Georgia's territorial integrity must be respected."Simply amazing, is it not? Czarbama FINALLY got around to at least saying the right thing. I doubt if he really meant it because after all, he is a fellow Marxist and that is what Putin wants to renew...a Marxist Moscow.
Obama called for direct talks among all sides and said the United States, U.N. Security Council and other parties should try to help bring about a peaceful resolution.
VP Cheney:
"Russian agression must not go unanswered. Its continuation would have serious consequences for its relations with the United States."Short and sweet. No wonder the moonbats hate him.
The whole scoop comparing the two is at Pajamas Media.
